Description:
In 2015, the Dr. Edward “Ed” M. Hopkins Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Hopkins, who regionalized the adult education program among the five local school divisions in Region 2000, now known as Adult Continuing Education of Central Virginia. Dr. Hopkins retired as the Regional Adult Education Program Manager from ACE after serving 43 years in education as an elementary teacher, elementary and middle school principal, Supervisor of Secondary Education, Supervisor of Assessment and Public Information. Following his retirement, Dr. Hopkins continued with the role of Chief GED Administrator for the region and served as an interim Regional Instruction Specialist and interim Regional Program Manager and as a mentor for the newly appointed regional program managers. Dr. Hopkins’ vision and leadership has helped ACE to progress to its current state. It is with great pleasure that we honor him with a scholarship in his name.
The Dr. Ed M. Hopkins Scholarship is designated specifically for past program completers who finished the program and have earned a GED credential since the regionalization of the program in 2007-June 2015. Now is a more suitable and appropriate time for this applicant to pursue postsecondary education or training full-time in an accredited college, career, or technical school in the Commonwealth of Virginia starting in the fall semester.
