About Us

Adult and Career Education (ACE) of Central Virginia provides free adult education classes in the region, specializing in English Classes, Reading and Math Skills, GED and VPT prep, College and Career Readiness, workforce preparation activities, and Integrated Education Training.

Some classes have continuous enrollment, which means learners can begin at any time. Classes are taught in both day and evening formats to accommodate busy adults. Classes are offered in various locations throughout the region and are taught by qualified instructors who meet or exceed the minimum requirements for employment.

Adults who wish to improve their English or basic literacy and/or numeracy skills may receive one-on-one volunteer tutoring or enroll in classes even if they do not have the goal of earning a secondary credential.

Localities in Region 2000

Adult and Career Education of Central VA serves an area over 2,000 square miles with a population of just over 252,000 in the heart of Virginia. ACE works with each of its localities to strengthen the regional workforce by increasing the number of adults completing a secondary school credential, entering postsecondary education and training, and entering/retaining employment.

The region consists of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties, the towns of Altavista, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Brookneal, and the city of and Lynchburg. In this region, 22% of adults age 25 years and over (31,655) do not have a high school diploma or equivalency compared to a state average of 14%.
